Congo African Grey
This young African Grey is DNA sexed female. What a sweetheart.
The African Grey Parrot is known for its extreme intelligence - often described as the "world's most intelligent bird." It's ability to use and understand words is remarkable. There are two subspecies, the larger is called the "Congo" and the smaller is the "Timneh". Both species possess equal talking abilities. Like other parrots, the Grey learns to talk without vocal cords. Sounds are produced when the bird forces air across the top of its trachea, a process that resembles blowing air across the top of bottle. The averge Grey acquires its first word at about 11 months. Because of their great intelligence, the Grey can be a very sensitive pet; and depending how well socialized they are as babies, they tend to develop a strong, individual bond. The African Greys have been studied extensively by Dr.Irene Pepperberg, PhD of Harvard University.
